I became Stalin chapter 300
Epilogue 5: Road to Stalingrad
The three-day Moscow tour was somewhat bland.
“Oh yeah… Years are… .”
A future where all the people I remember are buried in history, and even the young people I didn’t know have grown old.
Originally, I was born and lived in this era, but the memories of Stalin that have been accumulated for over 10 years and still remain in me have weighed heavily on me.
Everywhere I looked, nothing had changed from before. Could this be the feelings of a person from the past who jumped over time and fell into an unfamiliar future?
The capital of the world’s most advanced and superpower is not just old and quiet, but it seems that 70 years, no, more than 70 years have been skipped, so it could come as a culture shock.
‘Pale death knocks equally at the gates of the poor and at the palaces of kings.’
Stalin, who wielded powerful Soviet power, and his subordinates, as well as his successor and his successor, the general secretary, were killed. As if countless young people in the Soviet Union who had nothing to learn were killed in the Great Patriotic War.
Free power, free world. Somehow, Stalin still remained in me, a memorial in Smolensk, and I felt like I missed my sons. Even Svetlana who abandoned Stalin and walked into Irkutsk with Sergo Beria.
Ironically, there was nothing like Stalin’s tomb in that Kremlin wall cemetery, where many people who contributed to the Soviet Union are buried. Khrushchev, who had a similar feeling of respect to me, seemed to have granted me at least one request.
‘Do not bury me in splendid places like the Kremlin wall cemetery or mausoleum. Just put my ashes in a small ossuary and bury them somewhere near a rural elementary school, under a modest tombstone. So that the little ones can run around near my tombstone. I have always loved my children, but I had so little time to spend with them in my lifetime.’
‘It wouldn’t be a bad idea to build a little hut though. Sometimes if someone comes to my grave, I can take a break. It’s also a good idea to have your visitors plant a tree at a time. The trees planted one by one will one day grow into a forest together. Just as we Soviet people grew up together.’
* * *
Moscow is back after nearly 70 years. Although the old image remains, the old-fashioned buildings reminiscent of the old days remain shabby among the newly built skyscrapers.
And among the numerous buildings in the future city, the most futuristic was this history.
“Five… That’s great… .”
The entire building, like a glass palace built on the outskirts of Moscow, was a railway station. Railway networks from all over the country gathered from Moscow Central Station to the Moscow High-Speed Railway through a dedicated track.
“The history you are seeing now is the central station of the high-speed rail, which is the pinnacle of Soviet science and technology. Introduced in 2001, the superconductor-based maglev train is currently being used as a useful means of transportation connecting major cities in the Soviet Union, achieving a maximum speed of 750 km/h… .”
“Wow… .”
“If you look at this history from above, you can see that it is in the form of a sickle and hammer, the coat of arms of the Soviet Union. Trains from each terminal go to the major cities of the USSR: Leningrad, Kiev and Vladivostok.”
“Uh… .”
why do you make it like that… ?
I thought that cyberpunk-like scythes, hammers, and red stars were scattered all over Moscow, but I never imagined that such a high-speed rail station would have been made like that.
Overall, the atmosphere of the Soviet-Russian as we know it was almost non-existent, rigid, gloomy and outdated compared to what I knew. Should I rather say it looks like the New York of the future? In fact, it was unlike any other city I had ever known.
A clean and tidy city center and people who look happy in it. It wasn’t a very glamorous and sophisticated city, but it was a place where neither beggars nor pickpockets were seen.
Of course, it will not be a utopia. Problems that are difficult for a passing tourist to notice will be rife in the Soviet Union and Moscow, as in any era. You will have to look in another direction to see if you have actually solved it well.
But people were laughing. Why? Is there any hope for the future?
* * *
“If you look to the left, it is the crystallization of Soviet science and technology! You can see the maglev train.”
What else will come out now? Supersonic passenger planes boasting amazing quietness, superconducting magnetic levitation trains you’ve only seen in cartoons… It seemed like everything was made well except for the cell phone. The magnetic levitation tracks and trains visible from the window looked like things you’d see in a science fiction movie.
A train that fell into a streamlined shape like a drop of water flickered its LED display a few times and then literally departed in a flash. Had I been looking in the other direction, it was so quiet that I would not have known whether the train was leaving or not.
As I looked at the back of the train that accelerated in an instant and disappeared from view, I could feel the advanced science and technology.
‘Every time I see this, I get a little skeptical… .’
Holding on to the pants dance going down because of the heavy bricks in their pockets, the Stalingrad tour group went through the terminal-like station to the future city and headed for the platform.
“All members of the tour group are welcome to sit in their assigned seats.”
It seems to me that there is much more to see in Moscow or Leningrad than in Stalingrad, but somehow people seemed very happy to go to Stalingrad.
As they boarded the maglev train, the people whispered among themselves as if they were looking forward to each other.
“I go all the way… .”
“I’m really excited too. how… .”
‘???’
Stalingrad was a major industrial city and an important point of water transport connecting the Caspian Sea – the Volga River and the Black Sea – the Don River.
However, compared to Moscow and Leningrad, which have served as first and second cities since the Russian Empire, they were just a small country town. Rather, places like Kiev/Kharkov in Ukraine or Tashkent in Uzbekistan were much bigger and more important.
Perhaps it was because of the idolization of Stalin, the Soviet government pushed Stalingrad quite a bit. Maybe it’s because something important happened in Stalingrad, so Stalingrad is booming… .
But less than two hours later, I knew I was doing something wrong.
[The train is now passing through Volgograd, Volgograd Station.]
“Eh?”
Volgograd? That’s Stalingrad… .
I was suddenly bewildered, and when I looked at the electronic display, I could tell for sure. On the map, where Stalingrad was supposed to be located, the name Volgograd was right there.
My head was suddenly confused. The train quickly passed the station and began to descend south without slowing down, as Volgograd was not the destination.
Reluctantly, a passing crew member was caught.
“that… over there, that… Where is this train going?”
“The destination of the train is Kazakhstan.”
“Yes?”
What? The flight attendant said that with a blunt expression characteristic of a Russian and left. Kazakhstan? Why are you going there?
Yet, despite the passing of Volgograd, people joked, laughed and chattered without hesitation. Am I the only one who doesn’t know?
I asked the uncle next to me for courage.
“Uncle, maybe… Where is Stalingrad?”
“Well? Where are you?”
Uncle looked at me with a puzzled expression as if there was no one who didn’t know that, and then raised his finger.
And I soon found out.

[Three, two, one… launch!!]
[Our shuttle departs from Stalingrad, Stalingrad. Passengers, fasten your seat belts and be prepared for the impact of take-off.]
“Ahhhhhhhh!”
People began to scream joyfully because of the shock and gravitational acceleration of the shattering spaceship launch. Much faster and more drastic than it had come from a supersonic airliner, Baikonur spacebase began to move away from the window.
A trip to Stalingrad was not just a tour of the Soviet Union.
‘Red Planet’ ‘Stalingrad’, a pioneering city built to commemorate the great Soviet leader Stalin on the land of Mars. To promote the victory of Soviet space science and technology and advance that broadened the horizons of mankind.
The space shuttle pilot shouted joyfully to the passengers.
“If you look over there, you will see the world’s largest space station, Mir-6.”
Several silver structures were seen floating against the background of the endless darkness of space. Is that all a space station?
The pilot continued to explain the numerous structures installed by the Soviet Union in the background of space, whether they were just proud to show off the amazing science and technology of the Soviet Union.
“If you all look up, you will be able to see the world’s largest space telescope, the Koryorov Telescope, from that direction as well. Have you all heard of Dr. Koryolov?”
Mir-6 Station, Koryorov Telescope. Objects that were astonishing to hear their name passed by the outside of the shuttle.
“To get to Mars, you must first circle the moon and gain acceleration. Passengers, have you never seen the far side of the moon in person? You’ve all seen it in pictures… .”
Please take this opportunity to keep an eye on it! The pilot shouted that and accelerated the spacecraft once more.
At the sensation of their eyes spinning inside the space suit, the people once again shouted happily as if they were riding a roller coaster.
“Some people think that the remnants of the Nazis, especially Hitler, who failed to find his remains, fled to the moon… We looked around the moon and there was no such thing. Passengers can see it with their own eyes. Ha ha ha ha ha!”
During one orbit around the moon, small bases on the far side of the moon could also be identified. The lunar frontiers established by the Soviet Union were nestled in the seas behind the moon.
And the face of the Earth… .
‘beautiful… .’
The universe is dark, but the earth is green. White clouds, blue oceans, and green continents. It passed by in an instant, but he seemed to know what Yuri Gagarin, the first astronaut in actual history, meant when he said that.
It flew through the dark outer space, passing through the great sea of stars, but everyone could not help but marvel. The pilot also trembled at the passengers.
“Hahahaha, it’s a sight I see often, but I’m still moved every time I see it! If we can all live together in peace on such a beautiful planet… Ah! Passengers! Look to the right!”
A red dot began to appear on the other side of the black bay.
“‘Red Planet’… .”
“That is Mars! This is where your destination, the ‘Red City’ Stalingrad, is located. then… .”
The city, which seemed small on the red surface, gradually expanded in front of our eyes.
Stalingrad, the farthest place humans have set foot on Earth. I couldn’t get anything out of my mouth. It’s just that the shouts are boiling in my chest.
“Soviet Ura! wow! Whoa!”
